Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a South African lawyer, won the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote peace and international law. Born in 1941 to Indian parents, Pillay became the first Black woman to serve on South Africa's High Court in 1995. She previously defended anti-apartheid activists and fought against political detainee mistreatment.
