Farmers Demand Revival of Stalled River Projects in Sivaganga

Environmental activists and local farmers in Sivaganga have urged the district administration to restart stalled river restoration projects. Nine minor rivers supplying over 2,500 water bodies have faced decades of neglect, illegal sand mining, invasive trees, and encroachments.
Official S. Krishnan highlighted that over one lakh acres of farmland rely on these waterways.
Frequent transfers of district collectors repeatedly halted community desilting efforts, causing floodwaters to inundate residential areas during heavy rain.
