SEBI Proposes Tax Relief for Foreign Investors, Exemptions for Domestic Mutual Fund Investors

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has recommended reducing long-term capital gains tax for foreign investors and exempting domestic mutual fund investors from LTCG tax when switching between schemes. The proposals aim to improve India's investment appeal and encourage foreign portfolio inflows, amid a record $31 billion foreign equity withdrawal this year. The recommendations are non-binding and await government approval.
